What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the college is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from June 2023. ERO and the college agreed to evaluate how well its culturally responsive practice and curriculum support fair engagement, wellbeing and learning for every student, with particular attention to boys and Māori students.
ERO noted a flexible curriculum that follows students’ interests, pastoral and learning support that meets a wide range of needs, strong encouragement of student leadership and service, and useful partnerships with families, whānau and the community.
The college’s priorities are to build closer relationships with mana whenua and whānau Māori to guide its culturally responsive work and its sense of what success as Māori looks like, keep growing staff understanding of this practice, and develop a curriculum that reflects the cultures, languages and identities of all its students.

Enrolling
As a state-integrated Catholic school, the college gives preference to Catholic families, assessed against criteria such as baptism. Preference applicants are ranked in priority groups, with the highest priority for those who live in its qualifying parishes of Timaru, Waimate, Mackenzie and Opihi.
A limited number of non-preference places are offered only if room remains, and places are allocated by ballot when a priority group has more applicants than places.
Compulsory attendance dues, set by the proprietor, the Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, apply and are paid directly to the proprietor. Applications are made online, and unsuccessful applicants can join a waiting list.
