What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from May 2023. ERO and the school agreed to evaluate how well the way the school is organised, makes decisions, manages staff performance and communicates supports better teaching.

ERO said the school can draw on its focus on wellbeing and an inclusive culture, and on culturally responsive practice that shapes teaching and learning.

The school’s next steps are to review and strengthen the systems behind teaching, and to make teaching respond more closely to what each student already knows and needs, so that achievement and engagement improve.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, with first priority for students accepted into the Whare Ako special programme, then siblings and other priority groups, and a ballot when there are more applicants than places. Families may be asked for proof of address or of a sibling at the school.

The school confirms its application and ballot dates by public notice each year. Enrolment applications are made online through the school’s portal.
