What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from February 2024. ERO noted that the roll had grown sharply and a home zone had been brought in to manage it.

The evaluation ERO and the school chose targets low and declining results in maths, and looks at new ways of teaching maths that are culturally responsive.

ERO noted leaders who understand the wellbeing needs of students and whānau and build caring relationships, a partnership with a local group of schools and an outside facilitator that is improving maths teaching, and teachers and teacher aides working together on learning behaviour and wellbeing. The school also hosts the South Canterbury Learning Support Hub and a Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour cluster.

ERO said the school will now put in place and monitor one consistent, culturally responsive approach to maths across the school, have teachers regularly review their own practice to speed up progress in maths, involve families and the community in supporting maths learning, and strengthen planning and monitoring for students with diverse needs.
