What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from February 2026. ERO noted two changes of principal since its previous review. It found good teaching in reading, writing and maths, with a large majority of students at or above the expected curriculum level in all three, although results are not yet equal across groups and progress in writing had slowed.

Students feel valued and engaged, teachers know them well, learning links to the local environment, and staff have built shared structured literacy practice. ERO also found that only a small majority of students attend regularly, chronic absence is not yet falling, and the school has not yet extended progress for students already working at or above the expected level.

The key priorities are to raise achievement and close the gaps for boys and Māori students in reading, writing and maths, embed consistent teaching and assessment that line up with the New Zealand Curriculum, and put a school-wide attendance plan in place to lift regular attendance.

Enrolling

There is no home zone. Preference goes to children who meet the Catholic criteria, such as being baptised or being prepared for baptism, having a Catholic parent or guardian, or having a family member who commits to supporting their faith.

Children from other families are welcome when places are available, as only a small share of the roll can be non-preference students.

Families apply online and then book an interview with the principal. Preference applicants bring a baptism certificate and a preference certificate from their parish priest, along with the child’s birth certificate or passport and immunisation certificate.
