About the Domain

The Pleasant Point Domain serves the full range of community recreational needs for what is a small inland township about 20km from Timaru. The domain sits within a sheltered grove of oaks and conifers that give it a different character from the open agricultural landscape surrounding the town — the mature planting making it a pleasant environment for walking, sport and camping.

Sports grounds within the domain accommodate rugby, tennis and cricket, and an 18-hole golf course is integrated into the domain layout. A children’s playground is also on site, making the domain a family-friendly destination as well as a sporting venue.

Motor Camp

The Pleasant Point Domain Motor Camp is a council-owned camping ground within the domain, operating from Labour Weekend through to after Easter. It offers around 30 powered sites and 20 tent/non-powered sites, plus cabin accommodation, with kitchen and laundry facilities. Pets are welcome. The sheltered, treed setting is a drawcard — it has the feel of a mature parkland camp rather than a typical flat paddock.

Cycling Connection to Timaru

A cycle track connects Pleasant Point to Timaru along the flat valley floor — a popular route for cyclists making the 20km journey between the town and the city. The domain is a natural start or end point for this ride, giving the site an additional role as a cyclist’s base when exploring the Pleasant Point to Timaru corridor.
