What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from August 2023.

A profile report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together rather than giving full achievement results. Here the focus is how well the school’s teaching and curriculum, which aim to be inclusive and culturally responsive, support the learning and wellbeing of a diverse roll, including students in the specialist classroom, neurodiverse students, Pacific students and Māori students.

ERO noted governance and leadership committed to inclusion and equity, a culture where students feel they belong, and teaching that is increasingly removing barriers to learning.

ERO said the school will now keep building teachers’ skills in inclusive, culturally responsive teaching, develop schoolwide plans and guidelines for it together, and keep reviewing how well its curriculum and teaching are working for diverse learners.

Enrolling

Highfield School runs an enrolment scheme. Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are announced each year in a local newspaper, and when there are more applicants than places a priority order applies, with a ballot.

Students accepted into Te Whare Maru come first in that order, and applications for the programme go through the school office.

The school’s enrolment page describes the zone boundary, links to a zone map and an online enrolment form, and lists the documents needed before a child starts.
