The Temuka River is a hill-fed tributary of the Ōpihi system on the Canterbury Plains. Near Temuka township it runs along the boundary of the nearly 75-hectare Temuka Domain, giving easy river access close to town. The lower reaches near the SH1 bridge feature typical lowland scrub and willows, while upstream areas are more open.
